Knitting

I have taken up knitting: a new category is merited! Here is the first project I finished (not the first project I started, though):

Thing

It is felted. I know it’s ugly as sin, but I like it. So there.

Sushi Disappointment

Several months ago, someone bought out one of the empty storefronts a block south of us, and put up a sign saying a sushi restaurant would be opening soon. Johannes and I were terrified that we’d go bankrupt with a sushi place one minute’s walk away. That’s likely not going to be a problem, though. Oishi Sushi opened up there on Monday. First, they only stay open ’til 21; because of that, I wasn’t able to get in there before tonight. When I went in, I perused the quite sparse menu on the well. Two Bento menus, green tea, miso soup, and some individual pieces. I asked the lady behind the counter for a 15-piece Bento box, but without the shellfish, since I’m allergic. Then I took a look down at the fish they had displayed at the counter. Crabsticks, shrimp, scallops, and red clams, plus one slice of tuna and some salmon. That’s all the variety they had, and that’s all they’re ever going to have at that location. Not even butterfish like at their other location. So I didn’t order, and won’t be ordering in the future, since I don’t particularly care of tuna. Salmon alone does not make for a sushi dinner, and miso soup is really easy to make yourself.

Of course, I cannot comment on the quality of their sushi, but I expect they’re not going to be able to stay open for long, what with the early closing hours and piss-poor selection. Unless, of course, I’ve seriously overestimated Norwegians’ sushi-sophistication, which is a definite possibility (definite possibility?). What a let-down. Although I guess we should be thankful for the sake of our economy!

Brodwall’s Law

I was reading this mildly interesting Salon article about which foods should be refrigerated whin I came to this realization:

In any internet article or discussion relating to food, someone will mention that Americans are fat, regardless of that fact’s relevance to the actual subject matter.

Very similar to Godwin’s Law. Help me come up with a better name.

The One True Keyboard

I’ve finally gotten it.

IBM Model M 1391401

The IBM Model M 1391401. I love to type on these things. Perhaps that means I will post more. Yeah. I haven’t posted as I’ve been extremely depressed this fall and winter. I doubt I’
m coming out of it now, but who knows.

I’ve been using a keyboard with a Norwegian layout since I moved here in 1999. since they’re better for HTML coding; it’s going to take some time to get used to the US layout again. It’s also going to take some training to get back the strength in my fingers for typing on the model M since I’ve been using toy keyboards for so long.

Anyway, I am pleased. I have wanted one of these for a long time.
