For those who don’t read Norwegian, the article talks about how the gas prices in the US have increased 25% in the mast month, and supposedly the oil producers won’t be able to meet demands for another three to four years. It’s like, what, around 3 bucks a gallon there many places now? I wonder how bad it will have to get for Americans to change their gluttonous ways. The sad thing is that that the majority of the country was designed around the assumption that gas would always be in cheap, plentiful supply. So even if most Americans want to change, they won’t be able to. Ever try, say, walking to your local grocery store to do your shopping? You probably haven’t, because it’s completely unfeasible. My local grocery store is two minutes’ walk down the street, and there’s an ethnic store selling beautiful veggies right across the street from our building. This is what makes it possible for us not to own a car.
So, Americans are going to suffer in one way or another, and it ain’t gonna be pretty. It’s us here in Norway who will reap the benefits in the form of an increase of eight million dollars in next year’s budget. Now I’m wondering about the rationalizations that will have to take place in Americans’ minds in order to allow them to get behind attacking Norway.
